No. 18 Football Leaves No Doubt in 90-0 Victory Over Wilkes

(box score)

No words can truly describe, but will be attempted, 18th-ranked Widener's overpowering 90-0 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over Wilkes at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Senior Chris Haupt (Bloomsburg, PA) tied the school record with six touchdown passes, equaling the mark set by Mike Warker against Moravian on September 22, 2001. That is one shy of the MAC record established by Joe Montrella of Juniata against Susquehanna in 1998.

Senior James McFadden (Warminster, PA) booted a school and MAC-record 12 extra points, besting the old mark of 10 held by Widener's Matt Breslin set last season against King's. It is one short of the NCAA record set by Kurt Christenson of Concordia-Morehead against Macalester on September 24, 1977.

The 90 points easily breaks the school and MAC record of 74 set against Lebanon Valley on September 20, 2003. The Division III record is 105 points, held by Rockford against Trinity Bible from September 6, 2003.

Widener amassed 681 yards of total offense for the eighth-highest total in MAC history, one week after getting 688 yards at Misericordia for seventh place. The 467 yards passing is the ninth-best total in MAC annals.

It also marks the first time Widener (4-0, 3-0 MAC) has scored at least 60 points in a game three times in one season. The Pride entered today first in the country with 57.0 points per game, one year after pacing the nation with 47.09 points per contest.

Sophomore Anthony Davis (Upland, PA) caught two touchdown passes from Haupt in the first half and senior Dom DePasquale (Williamstown, NJ) added one. Freshman Robert Getz (Kunkletown, PA) and sophomore Couve LaFate (Wilmington, DE) each had touchdown runs as Widener opened a 35-0 halftime lead.

Haupt threw for 415 yards, tied for the seventh-best mark in Widener history, and competed 21-of-27 passes. Freshman Alec Wrieth (Lindenhurst, NY) had three receptions for 121 yards and two scores with Davis getting three catches for 113 yards to go with 68 punt-return yards.

Junior backup quarterback Tevin Campbell (Brookhaven, PA) had nine carries for 69 yards and a score for Widener, which averaged 9.9 yards on each offensive play, only punted once and scored a touchdown on its last eight possessions.

Connor Schlegel (Denver, PA), fellow freshman Christopher Wickes (Bear, DE), sophomore Leroy Wesley (Sharon Hill, PA) and junior Terrant Morrison (Smyrna, DE) also scored a touchdown with sophomore Jarard Stewart (Bowie, MD) returning a fumble for a score.

Junior Dylan Ditmer (Exton, PA) had another great game that was lost in the offensive explosion, ending with 12 tackles that included nine solos. Widener snuffed all four of Wilkes' fourth-down attempts to go with forcing seven punts and four turnovers.

Alex George completed 11-of-23 passes for 76 yards for the Colonels (1-2, 0-2) and Auxence Wogou had 20 carries for 112 yards.

Widener next Saturday visits Lebanon Valley for a 1:00 pm start.
