Widener University will participate in the Middle Atlantic Conference's third “MAC ATtaCk on Hunger."
In an initiative begun in 2010 by our athletic trainers, Widener is inviting all Certified Athletics Trainers (ATC) from the 16 MAC schools to help collect food and money for their local food banks. The schools are asked to hold such day(s) at some point during the spring.
Fans are asked to bring non-perishable foods to the games.
The baseball team will take part Friday during its game against Alvernia, which starts at 3:30 pm. The softball and men's lacrosse teams will partake Saturday during its 1:00 pm games against Alvernia and Elizabethtown, respectively.
It is part of Widener's mission to be civically engaged to the vitality and well being of the communities in which we serve. In a Philadelphia Inquirer article, it states 24 percent of the Chester residents are food insecure. According to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, the First United States Congressional District is the hungriest in the commonwealth and second hungriest area in the country.
