Women's Lacrosse Dealt 16-10 Setback by Alvernia

Alvernia used a strong first half to take control and did not let up, handing Widener a 16-10 Commonwealth Conference loss at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
Sarah George could not be stopped for the Crusaders, scoring four goals in the opening half as the visitors opened a 7-2 lead.  Allison Bainbridge, Alyssa Verrillo and Heather Coppola also tallied in the half for Alvernia.
 
George ended with seven goals, Verrillo had three and an assist with Coppola getting three goals.  Jen Czarnecki made 12 saves for the Crusaders (7-4, 1-0 CC).
 
Junior Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) continued her amazing play with four goals and now has 21 over her last five games to go with five hat tricks this season.  Senior Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) had two goals and an assist with freshman Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) getting a goal and two assists for the Pride (5-5, 1-1).
 
Freshman Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) made four saves in 35 1/2 minutes and senior Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) had two over 24 1/2 minutes.
 
Widener hits the road Saturday to visit Lycoming for a 1:00 pm draw in Williamsport, PA.
