Baseball Drops Two At Elizabethtown

Widener traveled to Elizabethtown today to complete a three game series, which began Friday , and took home two losses, 8-6 and 7-0.
 
After losing a tough game on Friday, Widener (13-10, 4-5 CC) got outhit by Elizabethtown in both games. In game one the Pride scored two runs in three separate innings. In the second inning Bill Hollingsworth (Drexel Hill, PA), who saw his 19-game hitting streak end Friday, hit a lead-off double to centerfield. He scored on a home run by third baseman Dennis Hocker (Coral Springs, FL), his fourth of the year and third in two days.
 
Widener in the fourth was able to tie the game at 4-4 by scoring two more runs off of two hits. Hocker led off with a walk and advanced to third on a right-field single by Brendan O'Brien (Coatesville, PA). With one out, second baseman Eric Von Stetina (Collegeville, PA) hit a double to score both Hocker and O'Brien before the end of the inning.
 
By the top of the seventh, the Blue Jays (14-7, 5-1) had added four more runs, making the score 8-4. Widener was able to add two more in its last at-bat, but could not take the lead. Von Stetina led off with a walk and advanced to second on an error to second baseman Tyler Weary from Kyle Summers (Mohnton, PA). Michael Riverso (Philadelphia, PA) was then hit by a pitch, giving the Pride bases loaded and no outs. Sean Saverio (Horsham, PA) singled through the left-side of the infield to score Von Stetina easily. Dan Sieracki (Cherry Hill, NJ) hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Summers from third. Widener was unable to put any more runs across the plate, leaving the score to game one 8-6.
 
Starting pitcher Joe Sessa (Broomall, PA) suffered his first loss and Rob Cressman landed his fourth win.
 
In game two, the Pride had four hits compared to Elizabethtown's 11. The Blue Jays put three runs across in the first inning, which would have been enough to win the game as Widener did not score any runs. Saverio had one hit, a single to center in the first inning, and four put-outs. Shortstop Matt Hone (Newtown, PA) batted 2-for-2 with a single to center in the second followed by a left-field single in the fourth. Widener's last hit came from O'Brien, who had an infield single to shortstop in the seventh inning.
 
West Chester, PA senior Rick Kazigian (3-2) struck out four batters in four innings pitched. Taras Letnaunchyn (5-0) pitched a full seven innings for the win.
 
The Pride next travels to The College of New Jersey on Tuesday, beginning at 3:30 pm.
