Julia Costello Scores Six Goals For Women's Lacrosse in 19-13 Victory Over Gwynedd-Mercy

Junior Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) scored a career-high six goals and also had two assists for Widener, which rolled to a 19-13 win over Gwynedd-Mercy at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
Widener (3-3) netted the game's first seven goals over a 15-minute stretch thanks to two apiece from senior Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) and sophomore Amy Albano (Columbia, MD).  Porter also had two assists in that spurt.
 
The lead grew to 9-3 with 6:01 left in the half as senior Jen Harnden (Hershey, PA) and freshman Angie Goff (Monmouth Junction, NJ) tallied for the Pride.  The Griffins (2-6) netted the last three of the half, including two from Brigid Dowling for a 9-6 contest.
 
Widener had nothing to worry about as it buried four of the first six goals in the second half for a 13-8 lead with 21:06 to play.  Costello netted a pair in that span with Harnden and Goff adding one apiece.
 
Costello's goals also are a team season high as is her eight points.  She only needed eight shots to reach that mark.
 
Harnden scored four goals, Goff netted three, Porter had two and four assists and Albano closed with two goals.  Freshmen Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) and Pinky Schneider (Moorestown, NJ) each scored once for the Pride.
 
Freshman Megan Dunn (Oxford, PA) made 10 saves over 40 minutes and senior Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) added seven over 20 minutes.
 
The Griffins wasted a memorable day from Kelsey Yori, who closed with seven goals and an incredible 13 draw controls.  Dowling netted four goals and Marina Hubbard made six saves over 50 1/2 minutes.
 
Widener on Friday hosts Marywood, beginning at 7:00 pm.
