Men's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight, 96-80 at Arcadia

(box score)

Senior Jack Brennan (Stratford, NJ) scored 21 points and hit some key baskets in the second half for Widener, which won its fifth straight with a 96-80 Commonwealth Conference triumph at Arcadia in Glenside, PA.

Down 49-40 at halftime, Arcadia looked to make things interesting as Khalief Trawick hit two free throws with 8:16 left for a 72-67 deficit.

But there was little panic for Widener (16-6, 7-4 CC), which scored the next six points for a 78-67 margin with 6:26 to go.  Brennan netted every point in that spurt, hitting a pair of free throws to end it.

After Malcolm Still made two from the line for the Knights for a 78-69 contest, senior Brian Smith (Baltimore, MD) hit a layup and Brennan canned a jumper with 4:53 to go for a 13-point contest.

Widener then held Arcadia to just three baskets the rest of the way to move to 8-0 in the series since the two became conference foes.

Junior Lamar Jackson (Philadelphia, PA) had 19 points and six assists, Smith netted 17 points, senior Perry Wright (Severn, MD) scored 12 and freshman Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ) added a career-high 11 for the Pride.

Brennan hauled in eight rebounds and shot 8-of-13 from the floor for Widener, which hit a robust 63 percent (20-of-32) from the field in the second half, 56 percent (38-of-68) overall and 13-of-24 from 3-point range.  The made 3-pointers matches the team's season high from November 18 against Penn State Mont Alto.

Still finished with 17 points, Joe Brown had 15 and seven rebounds, Trawick netted 13 points, Aaron Lee-Webb scored 12 and Colin McCarthy posted 11 for the Knights (9-13, 2-9).

Widener on Saturday visits Lycoming for a 3:00 pm start in Williamsport, PA.
