Men's Basketball Falls Just Short in 63-53 Setback to Richard Stockton

(box score)

Widener played hard throughout against a talented club in Richard Stockton, only to be handed a 63-53 setback at Schwartz Center.

Down 51-43 with seven minutes left, Widener got consecutive layups from sophomore Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) as part of his nine points in the half to close to 51-47 with 4:30 left.

The back-and-forth stages of the game continued with Lawson getting a huge three-point play with 2:25 to go for a 56-53 contest.

After Mike Perry missed a 3-pointer for the Ospreys, the Pride (2-7) got the ball back looking for the tie but could not get off a shot.

Perry's foul with 1:33 left sent Lawson to the line, but he missed two big free throws.  Richard Stockton then put away the game with 1:10 remaining when Rich Suhr canned a huge 3-pointer from the left wing for a 59-53 contest.

Lawson had 15 points and seven rebounds, Rodney Brown (Lake Valley, NJ) scored 15 points that all came in the second half and fellow junior Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Pride, who shot 46 percent (23-of-50) overall.

Darnell McCargo scored 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Suhr amassed 13 points and three 3-pointers for the Ospreys (8-1).

Widener is off until December 29, when it visits No. 25 NYU at 6:00 pm.
