Men's And Women's Swimming Take Part In Messiah Quad-Meet

Both of Widener's Swim teams traveled to Grantham, PA—along with FDU-Florham and Hood—to take part in Messiah's Quad-Meet and came home with a number of titles.
 
Michael Lawley (Philadelphia, PA) made his mark on the backstrokes, taking first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard with times of 25.68 and 55.80, respectively. Andrew Olchowecky (Philadelphia, PA) finished first in the 100-yard freestyle in 50.41 and came second in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.00. Lawley and Olchowecky were members of both of the Men's relay teams, finishing first in both races. Along with Andy Madore (State College, PA) and Stephen Ranalli (Wildwood, NJ), they took first in the 200-yard medley relay, stopping the clock at 1:42.48, less than half of a second ahead of host Messiah. The 200-yard freestyle relay squad also came first, consisting of Lawley, Olchowecky, William Gelgot (Lebanon, PA) and Ray Conover (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) and finishing in 1:30.96.
 
Gelgot also made a showing in the individual freestyle races, taking first in both the 200-yard and 500-yard in 1:51.14 and 5:04.19. He also finishing fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 50.85. Madore took second in two races; the 50-yard breaststroke in 29.82 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.06. Conover placed second in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.42.  Also for the Men's side, Ranalli took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 59.06 and third in the 50-yard butterfly in 26.50, while Vadim Belogorodsky (Huntingdon Valley, PA) came in second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:21.69 and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:29.03.
 
Colleen Tighe (Linwood, NJ) took the distance freestyle races, finishing first in the 1,000-yard in 11:11.57 and the 500-yard with a time of 5:26.99. Kelsey Lake (Ijamsville, MD) made a showing in the short-distance freestyle races, taking first in the 200-yard in 2:00.63 and the 100-yard in 55.69, while taking second in the 50-yard in 26 seconds, flat. Laura Harris (Phoenix, MD) took home three individual golds. She snagged the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly races with time of 27.00 and 1:00.78, respectively, and also took the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:13.53. Jennifer Barkofski (Norristown, PA) finished close behind her in the 200-yard IM, taking third in 2:21.24. She also placed third in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 34.26.
 
Harris and Lake, along with Annie Walker (New Castle, DE) and Carly Wray (Ocean View, NJ), took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.41. Walker also finished third in the 50-yard backstroke in 29.90, while Wray saw fourth in both the 50-yard freestyle in 26.69 and the 100-yard freestyle in 57.88. Kaitlin Harnish (Havertown, PA), Sara Leonelli (Vineland, NJ), Rachel Lewinson (West Windsor, NJ) and Wray made up the 200-yard medley relay squad that finished second in 2:00.64. Leonelli finished first in the 50-yard breaststroke in 33.50, second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.82 and also took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.59.
 
Both teams will host Franklin & Marshall this Friday beginning at 6:00 pm.
