Men's And Women's Swimming Compete At Scranton

Both of Widener's swim teams traveled to the University of Scranton today; The Men's team fell 158-80 and the Women lost 137-125.

The Women took home nine first place titles, including three from Laura Harris (Phoenix, MD) and two from both Colleen Tighe (Linwood, NJ/Mainland) and Kelsey Lake (Ijamsville, MD). The meet began with a win from the women's 200-yard Medley Relay squad—comprised of Annie Walker (New Castle, DE), Sara Leonelli (Vineland, NJ), Harris and Lake—that  finished in 1:55.84, less than a second ahead of Scranton's 'A' squad.

Harris took first in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.51, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:11.14 and the 200-yard IM in 2:15.48. Tighe took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:19.71 and also finished first in the 500-yard freestyle by more than four seconds with a time of 5:32.24. Lake's two first place titles came in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.69 and in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.42.

Walker gained 13 points for the Pride (1-1), taking first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.70 and finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.04. Tighe, Walker, Lake and #Carly Wray3 (Ocean View, NJ) made up Widener's 200-yard freestyle relay squad that finished second in 1:44.06.

The Men's team took home four first place titles. William Gelgot (Lebanon, PA) finished in 1:52.42 in the 200-yard freestyle, good for first, and Andy Madore (State College, PA) took first in the 200-yard IM in 2:14.47. Michael Lawley (Philadelphia, PA) finished first in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.66 and placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.34. Ray Conover (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) finished second in both the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.96 and the 200-yard IM in 2:17.24.

Gelgot, Lawley, Conover and Andrew Olchowecky (Philadelphia, PA) were the men that made up the first place 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 1:31.53. Olchowecky also ended second in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.11. Lawley, Madore, Gelgot and Stephen Ranalli (Wildwood, NJ) finished second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.43.

Both teams will travel to Swarthmore, PA on Wednesday, October 31 to take on the Garnet as part of the annual "320 Challenge" between the two schools with the meet beginning at 6:30 pm.
