Men's Soccer Dealt 3-0 Setback at Lebanon Valley

(box score)

Widener's hope of getting back to the Commonwealth Conference Tournament was put on hold as it was handed a 3-0 loss at Lebanon Valley in Annville, PA.

In a contest which the winner claimed a spot in the tournament, the Pride (7-8-2, 4-3-1 CC) held a 10-7 shots edge in the first half.  But it was the Dutchmen (12-3-2, 5-2-1) who struck first as Greg Figueroa took a cross from Joe Gallagher and put a shot inside the upper left corner in the 30th minute for a 1-0 margin.

Lebanon Valley made it 2-0 in the 49th minute as Cam Alexander scored off a feed from Figueroa.  Octavio Romero added another insurance tally for the Dutchmen when he tallied off a pass from Kelly Hess in the 75th minute.

Freshman Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ) had five shots and junior Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia) made four saves for the Pride.

Andrew Cooper fired four shots and James Clements came up with eight saves for the Dutchmen.

Widener drops into fourth place in the conference, pending the outcome of today's other league games.  The squad is one point ahead of Arcadia (4-3), which sits in fifth place and would be the last team in if the season ended now.

Widener is home Saturday against Elizabethtown as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.   The men's contest starts after 7:30 pm, which follows the women's 5:30 pm contest.
