Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 Game To Albright

(boxscore)
Widener scored early, but lost 2-1 to Albright in tonight's Commonwealth Conference game at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.

Widener (5-8-1, 2-4 CC) scored just 3:50 into the first half when Kelly Buckley (Villanova, PA) met Karen Thomas (Mullica Hill, NJ) with a pass for Thomas's seventh goal of the season. Albright took 10 shots in the first half alone and was closest to evening the score at 31:46 when Jordan Cassidy put one of her five first-half shots to the lower left corner, but keeper Olivia Pfautz (Ephrata, PA) got her fingertips on the ball just enough to redirect it.

Albright (9-5, 4-2) had another scoring opportunity knocked away by a Pride goalkeeper, this time by Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ). In the 47th minute, Hejnas went head-to-head with Albright's Alex Talbot and got the tips of her hands on the ball kicked to the lower-right of the net to deflect the shot. Directly after, Albright headed in a ball after a corner kick, but the goal was reverted due to an offsides call.

Widener's defense was able to hold off the Lady Lions shooters until in the 63rd minute when Cassidy fed Erin Hand for her seventh of the year to tie the game. Albright's Jena Muller inserted the ball on a corner kick and Talbot perfectly timed a header into the lower left corner of the net to put Albright in the lead 2-1.

Pfautz saw the first 45 minutes in goal and made five saves. Hejnas stepped in for the back 45, making two saves.

The Pride will travel to Grantham, PA to take on No. 2 Messiah in another conference game on Saturday, beginning at 3:00 pm.
