Women's Soccer Falls, 2-1, at Alvernia

Widener could not hold on to a first-half lead and was handed a tough 2-1 Commonwealth Conference loss at Alvernia in Reading, PA.

 
Widener grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute when junior Kelly Buckley (Villanova, PA) headed one home on a corner kick for her fifth goal of the season.  Junior Karen Thomas (Mullica Hill, NJ) and sophomore Nicole Foschini (Laurel Springs, NJ) got the assists for the Pride, who notched an 11-4 shots edge in the half.
 
Alvernia leveled things in the 53rd minute when Kelsey Gill tallied for a 1-1 tie.  The Crusaders took their first lead in the 65th minute when Bridget Verdel found the back of the net for a 2-1 margin.
 
Buckley had eight shots, Thomas took four and senior Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) made four saves for the Pride (5-7-1, 2-3 CC), who closed with 17-12 shots advantage.
 
Colleen Maher came up with nine saves for the Crusaders (7-6-2, 1-3-1).
 
Widener is home Tuesday against Albright, starting at 7:00 pm.
