Nicole Nardone’s Hat Trick Helps Lift Field Hockey To 4-3 Conference Win Over Arcadia

(box score)
Senior Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ) scored three goals to help Widener take home a 4-3 Commonwealth Conference win from Arcadia in Glenside, PA.

Arcadia's Jennie Kamel and Nardone went back-and-forth in a 20-minute time frame to make the score even at 2-2. Kamel scored first 13 minutes into the first half, but Nardone fired her first of three into the net on a penalty stroke. About 10 minutes later Kamel gave Arcadia the lead, just to be taken away again by Nardone on another penalty stroke at the start of the second half.

Freshman Meghan Garvey (Landenberg, PA) scored her 11th goal of the season with no assist to give Widener (3-9, 1-3 CC) its first lead of the game, 3-2.

At the 50th minute, Lauren Altera and Katrina Dull combined for Arcadia (10-3, 3-2) to tie the game at 3-3. About a minute later, Nardone secured her hat trick off of a pass from fellow captain and senior Olivia Burgese (Collegeville, PA) to give the Pride the lead and their first Commonwealth Conference win.

Nardone becomes the 18th player in school history and second this year to record a hat trick.  Junior Hannah Robinson (Clarksville, MD) also accomplished this on August 31 at Immaculata.

Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) played the full 70 minutes between the posts, making seven saves.

Widener will host Hood on Saturday at 1:00 pm for another Commonwealth Conference faceoff.
