Women's Soccer Handed 2-0 Loss by No. 1 Messiah

Widener ran into a formidable opponent in top-ranked Messiah and held its own before suffering a 2-0 loss in both teams Commonwealth Conference opener at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Messiah (8-0-1, 1-0 CC) scored its first goal in the 16th minute when Corrine Wulf converted a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead. The Pride (4-4-1, 0-1) battled throughout, but Bridgette Dolio tallied an unassisted marker in the 71st minute for a 2-0 margin.

Wulf took eight shots for the Falcons, who posted a 29-1 shots edge.

Sophomore Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ) made 12 saves for the Pride.

Widener on Tuesday visits Goucher for a 4:00 pm start.
