Devan Doyle's Overtime Goal Propels Women's Soccer to Thrilling 2-1 Win over Delaware Valley

(box score)

Junior Devan Doyle (Woodbury Heights, NJ) scored a great goal 4:12 into overtime as Widener picked up a huge 2-1 victory over regionally ranked Delaware Valley at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

On the game-winner, sophomore Amanda Doran (Philadelphia, PA) dribbled the ball up the field and fed senior Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) in stride.  Harvis toed a perfect pass on the ground to Doyle, who put one inside the left post for her first goal of the season and eighth career.

It capped a game in which Widener had a decided 30-5 shots advantage, including 17-2 after halftime, and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Pride (3-3-1) opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Harvis picked up a loose ball inside the six and buried her second goal of the year for a 1-0 lead.

The Aggies (3-2-2), ranked 10th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Poll, answered in the 26th minute.  Dana Gentile controlled a loose ball and put one home for her team-leading ninth tally of the year.

There would not have been overtime if not for Aggies defender Liz McQuillan, who made a great kick save on the line in the 88th minute off Doyle's point-blank shot.

Freshman Jenna Pedrick (Sicklerville, NJ) took six shots with Doyle and sophomore Karen Thomas (Mullica Hill, NJ) getting five apiece for the Pride.

Gentile had three shots and Julie Burnell made 11 saves for the Aggies.

Widener continues its three-game homestand next Wednesday against FDU-Florham, starting at 4:00 pm.
