Nicole Nardone Scores Twice For Field Hockey in 3-1 Win Over Wilkes

Junior Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ) scored twice within four minutes to help Widener overcome a one-goal deficit for a 3-1 win against Wilkes at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Just 20 minutes into the game, Wilkes' Shelli Whittington scored past Widener goalkeeper Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) for a 1-0 contest. The Pride (4-1) evened the score in the 42nd minute when Nardone blasted one in past the Lady Colonel keeper Lindsey Davenport. Almost immediately after, Nardone was awarded a penalty stroke and was successful in taking the lead for Widener.

At the 54th minute, senior Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ) gave the Pride an insurance goal as she took the ball and buried her fourth goal of the year. Cormier had four shots on the day with Kate Fetterman (Lewes, MD), Emily Norcross (Erial, NJ) and Brittany Creighton (Pitman, NJ) each getting two shots.

Widener outshot the Lady Colonels13-7.

Davenport made four saves for Wilkes (1-2).

Widener takes on Elizabethtown at home Friday for its first Commonwealth Conference game, starting at 7:00pm.
