Widener scored five times in the bottom of the eighth inning for its sixth straight victory, 10-6, and to cap a three-game sweep over Commonwealth Conference foe Albright in Chester, PA.
Widener (19-6, 7-2 CC) in the eighth took the lead for good when an error by pitcher Tyler Storms off the bat of junior Dan Sieracki (Cherry Hill, NJ) allowed sophomore Matt Hone (Newtown, PA) and freshman Sam Christie (Upper Darby, PA) to score for a 7-6 lead.
Junior Bill Hollingsworth (Drexel Hill, PA) added a two-run single through the right side later in the frame and sophomore Dennis Hocker (Coral Springs, FL) crossed home on a wild pitch.
Senior Jason Brooke (Collegeville, PA) got three hits to run his hitting streak to nine games, Hocker added three hits and freshman Andrew Gehringer (Boyertown, PA) drove home three runs for the Pride. Norristown, PA junior Salvatore Spera (3-0) picked up the win in relief, yielding no runs and two hits over 1 2/3 innings.
Widener starter Rick Kazigian (West Chester, PA) struck out seven in the no-decision, surrendering five runs – four earned – and nine hits over seven innings.
JoJo Fischer and Justin Danser rapped three hits apiece for the Lions (4-15, 0-6). Storms (1-1) gave up five unearned runs and four hits over two innings.
