Widener fell into an early deficit and could not recover in an 8-5 loss at Haverford.
The Fords scored six times in the fourth inning to open a 7-0 lead, keyed by a two-run double from Louis DeRosa. Jake Chaplin lined an RBI double, Charlie Carluccio and Jeff Butera each had run-scoring singles and Bobby Bailey lifted a sacrifice fly in the frame.
Freshman Andrew Gehringer (Boyertown, PA) had an RBI double in the fifth and junior Sean Saverio (Horsham, PA) added a run-scoring single for a 7-2 deficit. Senior Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, PA) scored on a balk in the sixth to make it 7-3.
The Pride made things interesting in the ninth with RBI singles from freshman Nick Cook (Cranford, NJ) and sophomore Matt Hone (Newtown, PA) for an 8-5 deficit. But Gehringer struck out as the tying run for the final.
DeAngelis had three hits and Saverio rapped two for the Pride (21-13). Broomall, PA junior Joe Sessa (0-1) was charged with one run and two hits over three innings.
Mike Galetta posted three hits with Chaplin and Carluccio getting two apiece for Haverford (30-6). Mike Galetta gave up three hits over four scoreless innings.
Widener's game Wednesday against Rowan was postponed. The Pride are home Friday for a big Commonwealth Conference tilt with Arcadia, starting at 3:30 pm.
