All fans in attendance are asked to donate canned goods or money that will be given to local food banks. This is an initiative begun last year by our athletic trainers in which Widener invites all Certified Athletics Trainers (ATC) from the 16 MAC schools to get involved.
Widener will sponsor this at five of its home events over four days. This also will take place April 22 when track and field hosts the Widener Invitational and April 29 in the women's lacrosse game against Alvernia.
It is part of Widener's mission to be civically engaged to the vitality and well being of the communities in which we serve. A report released in January from the Food, Research and Action Center (FRAC) lists sections of Delaware County as second in the nation for experiencing “food hardship.” A December 2010 report showed Pennsylvania's First Congressional District, which Widener is in, is the nation's second-hungriest district in the country.
