Junior Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) scored five goals and keyed the decisive first half for Widener, which rolled to a 14-4 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over Lycoming at Edith R. Dixon Field.
Widener (4-4, 2-2 MAC) scored the game's first five goals in just under 12 minutes and was never headed. Porter netted two of her four first-half markers during that opening stretch and senior Mellany Broomall (Clarksboro, NJ) also had a pair in the run.
Senior Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) and sophomore Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) also scored twice in the opening half for the Pride, who gained a 20-11 shots edge in the stanza and 35-19 overall.
Porter's goals matched her season high from the opener at Immaculata on February 26 and are one shy of her career best set March 27, 2010 against Lebanon Valley.
Costello netted four goals to tie her personal best set against Arcadia on April 24, 2010 and sophomore Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) also played great with nine saves. Emily Shumaker (Belcamp, MD) scored once, fellow junior Jen Harnden (Hershey, PA) had three assists and four draw controls with freshman Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) getting four draw controls.
Grace Gargiulo scored three goals, all on free-position shots, and Kristina Maurer made seven saves for the Warriors (1-6, 1-2).
Widener on Wednesday hosts FDU-Florham, beginning at 4:00 pm.
