Women's Lacrosse Cruises to 18-5 Victory Over King's

Junior Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) and sophomore Alex Taratuski (Ambler, PA) totaled six points each, propelling Widener to an 18-5 Middle Atlantic Conference win over King's at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
Widener scored the first three goals of the game, including a tally by Porter just 2:01 into the contest. Senior Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) added another just 45 seconds later, and Porter assisted Taratuski for a 3-0 lead with 23:22 left in the first half.
 
Chelsea Manes got King's on the board just short of the eight-minute mark, but Widener closed out the period with eight unanswered goals over the final 20:30, to hold an 11-1 lead at the break. Senior Mellany Broomall (Clarksboro, NJ), sophomore Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) and Taratuski all had a pair of goals over that span.
 
Widener outshot King's by a 24-10 margin in the first half.
 
Porter notched an unassisted tally just 2:31 into the second stanza, and freshman Amy Albano (Columbia, MD) scored Widener's 10th unanswered less than two minutes later.
 
King's fought back with three of the next four goals, including two from Sarah O'Doherty, but Widener had just too much firepower. Sophomore Sarah Hollywood (Mullica Hill, NJ) capped the scoring with just 1:11 left, giving the Pride their largest lead of the game with her second of the contest.
 
Six players for Widener recorded at least three points. Taratuski finished with four goals and two assists, and Porter posted three goals and three assists. Albano notched two goals, three assists, five ground balls and four draw controls, and Hollywood caused three turnovers.
 
Junior Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) recorded the win for the Pride (3-3, 1-1), making seven saves over 45:19.
 
Manes totaled two goals, an assist, four ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Lady Monarchs (1-2, 0-1).
 
Widener on Wednesday travels to Grantham, PA for a Middle Atlantic Conference game against Messiah at 4:00 pm.
