Widener took control early and led by double-digits for the final 33 1/2 minutes in an 84-59 Commonwealth Conference win over Lycoming on Senior Day at Schwartz Center.
Freshman Jennifer Egee (Ridley Park, PA) drilled a 3-pointer with 13:15 left in the first half, capping a 14-0 run for Widener and helping it open up a 20-6 lead. That was the first of four straight 3-point field goals for Widener over a 2 1/2 minute span, three of which were courtesy of Egee. The Pride made six of their first eight from beyond the arc, leading to a 29-11 lead just past the nine-minute mark.
The Pride led by as many as 22 in the first period, and held a 47-27 advantage at halftime. Widener earned a 15-0 advantage in second chance points and a 24-6 edge in bench scoring in the half.
Senior Laura Carson (Downingtown, PA) made three consecutive baskets in the first 2:20 of the second half, igniting a 16-5 surge to put Widener up 63-32 with 13 minutes to play. The Pride opened up their largest lead of the game at 80-45 with just 4:08 left.
Sophomore Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) led the Pride (19-6, 10-4 CC) with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Tina Burg (West Chester, PA) dropped 11 points off the bench, shooting 4-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Danielle Wetling (Upper Darby, PA) poured in 10 points and fellow senior Jesica Abraguin (Lancaster, CA) totaled eight points, seven assists and three steals.
With the victory, Widener ties the school record for wins in a season at 19, matching the 1981-82 squad that went 19-7 and won the Middle Atlantic Conference.
Kaitlyn Ober totaled a game-high 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting for the Warriors (9-16, 4-10).
Widener, whcih already clinched the third seed for the conference tournament, on Wednesday travels to Grantham, PA to face second-seeded Messiah in the semifinals, beginning at 7:00 pm.
