Women's Soccer Handed Crushing 2-2 Tie at Albright

(box score)

Widener gave its all despite being shorthanded, but surrendered a late goal in regulation for a tough 2-2 Commonwealth Conference tie at Albright in Reading, PA.

Needing a victory to make the conference tournament, the Pride (7-6-3, 2-3-2 CC) saw their season end in a game which they lost senior Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) in the first half and junior Devan Doyle (Woodbury Heights, NJ) in the second half to injury.

Albright (8-3-5, 2-2-3) drew first blood in the 24th minute when Mel Sullivan scored on a penalty kick to give the home team a 1-0 lead.  Widener answered in the 53rd minute as freshman Jenna Pedrick (Sicklerville, NJ) lined up a 20-yard free kick and buried it for her first collegiate goal.

The Pride were not done as they grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute.  Doyle got the ball in front of goalkeeper Olivia Giuliano and fed senior Brittany Balentine (Medford, NJ), who scored her second goal of the year.

Widener looked to hold on and wrap things, but Albright leveled the match at 2-2 with 4:48 left in regulation.  Steph Przybyszewski fed a crossing pass in front to Jordan Cassidy, who put one off her chest across the line.

Balentine had a shot in each overtime, both saved by Giuliano.  Cassidy attempted two shots in the second overtime, with one stopped by junior Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) and the other by sophomore Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ).

Balentine attempted three shots and Hejnas made three saves for the Pride.

Cassidy had five shots and Giuliano made four saves for the Lady Lions.
