Field Hockey Rides its Seniors to 4-0 Victory Over Goucher

(box score)

Widener got three goals from its seniors and ended the season with a convincing 4-0 victory over Goucher at Edith R. Dixon Field.

The Pride (8-8) got the only goal they would need in the 15th minute when senior Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ) buried her 34th career goal, third best in school history, and team-leading ninth this season.

Senior Kate Fetterman (Camden, ME) got into the act in the 21st minute when she slapped home her first goal of the year, giving Widener a 2-0 cushion.  Senior Kate Fay (West Chester, PA) was awarded a penalty stroke and buried it in the 44th minute for her third goal of the season and ninth career.

Widener then got a great goal in the 61st minute for the finale.  Brittany Creighton (Pitman, NJ) fired a pass from the right side that fellow junior Olivia Burgese (Collegeville, PA) re-directed home for her second tally of the year.

Cormier and Creighton had three shots apiece for Widener, which had a 15-1 edge that included 8-0 before intermission.  Freshman Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) had one save over 53 minutes.

Micki Manheimer came up with six saves for the Gophers (4-12).

The win gives the Pride a non-losing season in eight of their last nine campaigns.
