Men's Soccer Plays Great in 2-0 Loss to DeSales

(box score)

Widener played solidly throughout the match against a formidable DeSales squad, but was handed a 2-0 loss at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Widener (3-12-2) created numerous chances and ended with 13 shots that included 10 in the second half.  Junior DJ DiPaola (Havertown, PA) closed with five shots and senior Ryan Frantz (Marlton, NJ) made four saves.

But DeSales (14-3-1), which last week fell out of the national rankings, was just too much.  Tyler Nolan began play on the first goal by launching a throwing that went 10 yards in front to Brett Morris, who headed it home in the 51st minute.

Eight minutes later, the duo hooked up again from the left side.  Nolan again fired a throw that Morris just got a head on for his third goal of the year.

Derek Long closed with six shots and Mike Thompson had three saves for the Bulldogs.

Widener closes its season Saturday at Albright, beginning at 8:00 pm in Reading, PA.
