Men’s Basketball Rallies for 75-74 Victory at Lycoming

(box score)

Widener used a furious second-half rally to take a 10-point lead and held on for a 75-74 Commonwealth Conference victory at Lycoming in Williamsport, PA.

Down 41-26 with 3:32 left in the first half, Widener in the second half went on a 13-5 run in just under two minutes for a 68-56 lead with 10:37 remaining. Senior Chris McDevitt (Doylestown, PA) scored six points in that spurt with junior Perry Wright (Severn, MD) adding five.

Widener (8-5, 3-0 CC) maintained its momentum with a 74-64 lead with 3:14 left thanks to a layup from senior Jarrell Nelson (Waldorf, MD).

But Ihsaan Davis decided to take over, scoring every point during the Warriors' 10-1 run for a 75-74 deficit with 27 seconds left. He hit a pair of 3-pointers in that stretch, including one to cap the spurt.

Lycoming (10-4, 0-3) was forced to foul freshman Andrew Radomicki (Media, PA), who missed the front end of a one-and-one with 14 seconds left. Junior BJ Smith (Baltimore, MD) got the rebound for the Pride, but stepped out of bounds to give the Warriors one last chance.

The Pride stood tall on the last possession as Will Kelly, the Warriors' second-leading scorer who had been stymied all day, missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Junior Jack Brennan (Stratford, NJ) had 13 points and eight rebounds with Wright adding 13 points for Widener, which shot 56 percent (15-of-27) from the floor in the second half and 48 percent (29-of-60) overall. McDevitt scored 12 points to go with four 3-pointers, Nelson poured in 12 points and Radomicki added 10.

Jerald Williams scored 22 points, Kevin Anthony had 12 and 10 rebounds with Davis scoring 13 points for the Warriors, who hit just 35 percent (12-of-34) from the floor in the second half and 2-of-12 from 3-point range. Kelly scored 11 points, but was only 4-of-14 from the floor and 1-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Widener next Wednesday visits Albright for an 8:00 pm tipoff.
