Brittany Harvis' Goal Lifts Women's Soccer to Thrilling 1-0 Victory at Swarthmore

(box score)

Junior Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) continued her strong start, scoring 4:27 into the second overtime to propel Widener to an enthralling 1-0 win at Swarthmore.

Harvis got the ball just inside the box off a great pass from sophomore Devan Doyle (Woodbury Heights, NJ) and lifted it over goalkeeper Marie Mutryn. It was her team-leading second goal of the season, giving Widener its first win versus Swarthmore since 2005.

The defense kept Widener (2-1) in the game. Swarthmore (1-2) owned a 13-11 shots advantage, but sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) made nine saves that included four in the first half.

Harvis and senior Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) each had three shots for the Pride, who gained a point in the “320 Challenge” against the Garnet. Freshman Olivia Yoh (Wernersville, PA) ended with two.

Mutryn made three saves with Megan Brock and Megan Colombo recording four shots apiece for the Garnet.

Widener on Friday plays Medgar Evers at the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic in Newark, NJ. Game time is 5:00 pm.
