The Pride (8-7) on Friday notched two victories, 3-2 over Penn State Altoona (18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 21-15, 15-10) and 3-0 against Chestnut Hill (25-13, 25-14, 25-23). Widener on Saturday posted a 3-1 victory over Ursinus (25-9, 32-30, 21-25, 25-13) before losing 3-1 in the final to York (PA) (25-23, 6-25, 14-25, 23-25).
Against Penn State Altoona, sophomore Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) recorded 44 digs, senior Erin Gravelle (Media, PA) chipped in 21 and junior Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) added 19. Ballew also dished 42 assists, junior Alectra Edison (Lancaster, CA) finished with 16 kills and freshman Heather Long (Ephrata, PA) contributed 11.
Versus Chestnut Hill, Spence notched 16 digs and Edison ended with nine kills. Ballew registered 14 assists and freshman Maggie Greenberg (Meadowbrook, PA) added 13.
Against Ursinus, Ballew had 42 assists and 22 digs with DiMaria posting 15 kills and 14 digs. Spence notched 33 digs, sophomore Jennifer Mastantoni (Horsham, PA) had 15, Edison recorded 14 and Gravelle added 13. Junior Nicole Merton (Media, PA) contributed 10 kills.
York (12-1) proved to be too much, despite 12 digs from Mastantoni and 11 apiece from DiMaria and Spence. Ballew closed with 16 assists.
DiMaria finished the tournament with 32 kills, 36 digs, seven blocks and three aces. This came one week after she was named to the all-tournament squad at the Bomber Invitational in Ithaca, a field Widener also closed second in.
Widener on Tuesday travels to Annville, PA to face two-time defending Commonwealth Conference champion Lebanon Valley beginning at 7:00 pm. The Pride handed the Dutchmen their only regular-season conference loss last season.
