Jessie Furia (Morton, PA) was named the tournament's MVP and fellow senior Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) tied a school record for Widener, which took the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic with a 4-1 win at Rutgers-Newark.

Furia, who has been named second team All-Commonwealth Conference the last two years, played a key role in the defense allowing just one goal over two matches. Yenchak became the seventh Widener player to record three assists in one game, tying her own mark she set against Penn State Abington on September 29, 2007.

Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) scored in the third minute to give the Pride a 1-0 lead and fellow junior Brittany Balentine (Medford, NJ) followed suit in the 27th minute. Freshman Olivia Yoh (Wernersville, PA) tallied in the 32nd minute for a 3-0 margin and sophomore Devan Doyle (Woodbury Heights, NJ) made it 4-0 in the 57th minute.

Kelly Buckley (Villanova, PA) dished two assists and fellow freshman Victoria Batter (Woodlyn, PA) added one for the Pride (4-1), who have won three straight by a combined score of 18-1. Sophomore Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) made four saves.

Michelle Gromashchuk scored for the Scarlet Raiders (3-3) and Kat Renteria stopped 12 shots.

Widener opened play in the tournament Friday with a 13-0 win over Medgar Evers, breaking the school record for most goals and most lopsided victory.

Harvis, Balentine and senior Rachel Kyprianou (Shrewsbury, PA) were named to the all-tournament team in addition to Furia.

The Pride on Tuesday visit Rutgers-Camden for a 7:00 pm start.
