Freshman Dennis Hocker (Coral Springs, FL) went 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three RBI and three runs to lift Widener to a 21-6 win over TCNJ in Chester, PA.
As it often has this year, Widener jumped to an early lead. The Pride scored six runs on just two hits in the first inning, all started on a leadoff home run by junior Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, PA).
Widener added one in the third on Hocker's round tripper to make it 7-0.
TCNJ made it interesting in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs. The big blow came off the bat of Mike Murphy, who hit a three-run homer to left.
Sophomore Dan Sieracki (Cherry Hill, NJ), who had two hits and three RBI, in the bottom of the fourth hit the Pride's third home run of the game, a two-run shot to left for a 9-5 contest.
The Pride scored six in both the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach. Senior Tom Connelly (Media, PA), who went 2-for-2, drove in four runs, and scored two, hit a three-run long ball to left-center field in the fifth for Widener's fourth of the game.
Junior Alex Oliver (Lebanon, NJ) and sophomore Sean Saverio (Horsham, PA) each finished with two hits. Saverio scored four runs and fellow sophomore Bill Hollingsworth (Drexel Hill, PA) scored three.
Sophomore Mike Pappas (Brookhaven, PA) recorded his first career win for the Pride (11-7).
Jason Zegarski had two hits for the Lions (8-11) and Chris Esperon drove in two runs.
Widener is off until next Tuesday, when it travels to Doylestown, PA to face Delaware Valley at 3:30 pm.
