Women's Lacrosse Notches Milestone Victory in 19-7 Triumph at King's

Senior Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) scored six goals as she and sophomore Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) keyed the decisive first half for Widener in a 19-7 Middle Atlantic Conference rout at King's in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

 

Widener settled matters early, getting three goals each from Elliott and Porter for a 12-1 halftime lead.  The Pride owned a 22-15 shots edge in that span and a 10-3 advantage in draw controls.

 

Elliott now is at 72 goals this season, breaking her own mark of 71 which she set last season.  She also has 197 goals for her career, second in Widener annals, in addition to reaching six goals for the sixth time this year and third straight.

 

Freshman Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) had three goals, five assists and six draw controls, sophomore Jen Harnden (Hershey, PA) totaled three goals and four assists with junior Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) dishing three assists for the Pride.  Sophomore Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) made 12 saves in just over 43 minutes.

 

Chelsea Manes and Andrea Aleeso scored twice with Megan Mundy posting nine saves for the Lady Monarchs (0-16, 0-11 MAC).

 

Widener (11-5, 8-3) clinches it first MAC Tournament berth since 2005 and claims the fourth seed, earning it a home first-round game next Tuesday against the No. 5 seed.  The 11th victory also ties the school record established in 2003, when the squad went 11-5.

 

Widener on Saturday closes the regular season at Elizabethtown, beginning at 1:00 pm.
