Women's Lacrosse Rolls to 19-13 Victory Over Arcadia

Senior Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) scored six goals and added four assists, propelling Widener to a 19-13 Middle Atlantic Conference win over Arcadia at Edith R. Dixon Field.

 

The first half featured four lead changes.  Junior Mellany Broomall (Clarksboro, NJ) opened the scoring on a free position shot just 31 seconds into the game to give Widener an early lead.  After sophomore Jen Harnden (Hershey, PA) assisted junior Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) to make it 2-0, Arcadia countered with three goals in the span of 2:10 to earn a 3-2 edge.

 

Widener would regain the lead at 4-3 with 15:12 left in the first half, only to find itself trailing 5-4 when Kaitlyn Gamber tallied for the Knights just three minutes later.

 

Elliott scored to tie the game with 8:56 left in the half, and then assisted freshman Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) just 16 seconds later to give the Pride the lead for good.  Widener closed out the first half with six unanswered goals to gain a 10-5 lead.

 

Widener outshot Arcadia by a 44-27 margin, including a 21-12 edge in the first stanza.

 

Costello closed with four goals for the Pride (9-5, 6-3), and sophomore Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) had three.  Harnden recorded two goals and three assists.

 

Sophomore Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) recorded the win, making 11 saves.

 

Meghan Fallon scored five goals for the Knights (4-10, 3-8), and Stephanie Holguin had three.  Evelyn Ciaburri made 20 saves.

 

Widener on Tuesday hosts Manhattanville at 4:00 pm.
