Women's Lacrosse Notches Best MAC Start With 18-5 Win Over Misericordia

Junior Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) scored three of her career-high five goals in the first half, when Widener grabbed control in an 18-5 Middle Atlantic Conference win over Misericordia at Edith R. Dixon Field.

 

Walz scored three times in the first 21 1/2 minutes to help the Pride open an 8-0 lead.  The margin grew to 10-1 by halftime as Widener owned a 24-4 shots edge and a 10-2 margin in draw controls.

 

Senior Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) ended with four goals and sophomore Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) had three for the Pride, who finished with a 37-15 lead in shots and a 22-3 edge in draw controls.  Walz amassed eight draw controls and sophomore Anna Geeter (Jackson, NJ) totaled four ground balls.

 

Emily Foley scored four goals and Brenna Bakera had nine saves for the Cougars (1-5, 0-3 MAC).

 

Widener (6-2, 4-0) is off to its best conference start in school history and has won five straight for the first time since a school-record eight-game run in 2003.

 

Widener on Tuesday visits Alvernia for a 7:00 pm start in Reading, PA.
