Women's Lacrosse Rallies For Huge 12-11 Victory at Lycoming

(box score)

Sophomore Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) and junior Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) each scored two of their three goals in the second half, when Widener stormed back for a thrilling 12-11 Middle Atlantic Conference victory at Lycoming in Williamsport, PA.

Trailing 8-4 at halftime, the Pride outscored the Warriors 8-3 in the second half to snap their four-game skid against the home team.

Widener (3-2, 1-0 MAC) netted the first four goals of the second half for an 8-8 tie.  Porter scored twice with junior Mellany Broomall (Clarksboro, NJ) tallying and freshman Alex Taratuski (Ambler, PA) leveling the match with just under 19 minutes left.

Justine Titko scored for Lycoming with 18:45 remaining, but the lead was short lived as sophomore Anna Geeter (Jackson, NJ) tallied just 17 seconds later for a 9-9 tie.

Walz then took center stage, converting a pair of free-position shots that gave Widener an 11-9 cushion with 12:41 to go.  Geeter's second of the game with 7:08 left made it a three-goal contest.

Megan McIntyre scored with 1:31 remaining for Lycoming (2-4, 1-1) and Amanda Baker followed suit with 18 seconds left for a 12-11 game.  But Widener put things on ice as sophomore Jen Harnden (Hershey, PA) won the ensuing draw control for her team-high third of the match and most important.

Harnden closed with four assists and helped Widener rally despite being outshot 15-12 in the second half.  Sophomore Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) made 13 saves.

Baker scored three times with Titko, McIntyre and Brianna Robertson netting two each for Lycoming.  Brittany Bryan made 10 saves.

Widener on Wednesday hosts Eastern, beginning at 7:00 pm.
