Widener was dealt its first loss of the season with a 15-8 setback at Randolph-Macon in Ashland, VA.
Senior Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) tallied in the first three minutes to open the scoring and after Randolph-Macon netted a pair, freshman Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) tied it a two with 13:41 left in the half.
But the Yellow Jackets (1-0) scored five straight goals spanning just under seven minutes for a 7-2 lead with 6:58 to play in the half. Kelly Egan's free-position goal with 13:06 to go broke the tie.
Elliott closed with four goals and five draw controls for the Pride (1-1). Sophomore Jen Harnden (Hershey, PA) scored twice with an assist and junior Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) also tallied. Junior Mellany Broomall (Clarksboro, NJ) had two assists, senior Brittany Dippolito (Pennsauken, NJ) contributed one and sophomore Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) made eight saves.
Erin Clare Cassidy scored four goals, Elyse Cooper netted three and Alex Flammia stopped 11 shots for Randolph-Macon.
Widener on Saturday plays Haverford as part of the Tri-Co Invitational on the campus of Swarthmore College. Game time is 2:00 pm.
