Senior Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) scored six goals and added an assist, propelling Widener to a 17-2 win over Immaculata in its season opener at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Widener (1-0) scored early and often, jumping to a 6-0 lead in the first seven minutes. Elliott and sophomore Rachel Porter (Medford, NJ) accounted for each of the first six goals. Junior Mellany Broomall (Clarksboro, NJ) assisted Porter for the first goal of the game just 1:08 into the contest and the Pride never looked back.
Widener scored the game's first nine goals and held a 10-2 lead at half.
Elliott led Widener with eight shots, contributing to a 34-15 shots advantage that included a 20-10 edge in the first half. Porter added seven shots, including four goals, and also added an assist.
Freshman Julia Costello (Brookhaven, PA) finished with three goals and two assists, and junior Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) notched a goal and an assist, and also recorded four ground balls for the Pride.
Linda Salcedo (Media, PA) recorded the win, stopping two shots over thirty minutes, and fellow sophomore Shelley O'Neill (Brookfield, NH) made four saves.
Kacie O'Neill and Rebecca Whiteman each tallied and Britt Worthington made 14 saves for the Mighty Macs (0-1).
Widener on Tuesday travels to Ashland, VA to face Randolph-Macon at 3:00 pm.
