No. 24 Women's Soccer Matches School Record 10-Game Unbeaten Streak With Victory Over Lycoming

(box score)

Senior Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA) tallied in the 55th minute, providing Widener all the offense it would need in a 2-0 victory over Lycoming on Senior Day at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Junior Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) played a ball from near the Lycoming goal line across to Yenchak, who slipped it inside the near post from six yards out, giving Widener a 1-0 advantage just over nine minutes into the second half. The goal moves Yenchak into second in school history with 30 for her career.

Harvis also assisted on a Widener insurance goal when she played a ball up the field to just inside the top of the box where sophomore Devan Doyle (Woodbury Heights, NJ) put it away for a 2-0 lead with just 11:47 left in regulation.

Harvis recorded eight shots for Widener, which finished with a 20-7 shots edge, including an 11-3 margin in the second half.

The defense, anchored by seniors Jessie Furia (Morton, PA) and Rachel Kyprianou (Shrewsbury, PA), along with sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) and freshman goalkeeper Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ), earned Widener its eighth shutout of the year. Hejnas recorded the win, making three saves for the Pride (10-1-1, 1-0-1) in just over 79 minutes of action.

The victory extends Widener's unbeaten streak to 10 games, tying the school record set by the 1995 squad.

Caitlin Dougherty made 11 saves for the Warriors (7-4, 0-2).

Widener on Wednesday travels to Glenside, PA for a Commonwealth Conference match with Arcadia, beginning at 4:00 pm.
