Junior Brittany Balentine (Medford, NJ) scored goals just 27 seconds apart as 24th-ranked Widener ran its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 4-1 triumph over Wesley at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Down 1-0 at halftime, Widener (9-1-1) got the equalizer in the 58th minute. Freshman Kelly Buckley (Villanova, PA) blasted a corner kick that sophomore Devan Doyle (Woodbury Heights, NJ) tapped to senior Rachel Kyprianou (Shrewsbury, PA), who knocked it in for her first goal of the year.
The Pride grabbed the lead for good, 2-1, in the 74th minute. Doyle fed a great pass to senior Caryinna Yenchak (Ashley, PA), who put a shot from 10 yards inside the top right corner for her fifth goal of the season.
Balentine's first goal in the 79th minute was a 20-yard free kick that went through a crowd and inside the right post. Her team-leading eighth goal of the year was an eight-yard shot thanks to Yenchak's cross from the right side.
Balentine had five shots with Yenchak and junior Brittany Harvis (Delran, NJ) posting three apiece for Widener, which had an 18-2 shots edge that included 12-1 after intermission.
Samantha Lyon scored in the fourth minute off a corner kick with assists from Kimberly Juhas and Kaitlin Barry for Wesley (1-9-1).
The Pride are 8-0-1 during the unbeaten streak, which is one shy of the school record set in 1995.
Widener on Saturday closes its three-game homestand against Lycoming, beginning at 4:00 pm.
