Swimming Posts Two Victories Over Scranton

Widener's women's swimming team recorded a 109-91 win over Scranton and the men notched a 108-97 triumph at Schwartz Center.
 
Freshman Laura Harris (Phoenix, MD) won three times for the Pride (1-1), including two individual victories. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.42 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 53.67, both breaking the school records.
 
Harris also helped the 400-yard medley relay team win in 4:09.30. The team included sophomore Kelsey Lake (Ijamsville, MD), Laura Farrar (Longmont, CO) and fellow freshman Carli Rapp (Reading, PA).
 
Lake also took the 200-yard backstroke in 2:17.57 and Farrar grabbed the 200-yard IM in 2:17.03. Farrar also set the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke, stopping the clock in 2:30.83 to help Widener post its first victory over Scranton since 1994.
 
Freshman Colleen Tighe (Linwood, NJ) took the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:11.01, as well as the 500-yard freestyle in 5:26.71, and junior Carlee Moir (Broomall, PA) took the 200-yard butterfly in 2:25.56.
 
Senior Jesse Bregman (Oreland, PA), sophomore Michael Roth (Columbia, MD), and freshman Michael Lawley (Philadelphia, PA) each won twice for the men (1-1). Bregman grabbed the 100-yard freestyle in 48.95 seconds, Roth captured the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.31 and Lawley took the 200-yard backstroke in 2:02.65.
 
The trio also helped the 400-yard medley relay team, which included junior Sean Corcoran (Newtown, PA), win in 3:41.80.
 
Junior Charlie Schindler (Pasadena, MD) took the 200-yard IM in 2:05.41 and freshman Joseph Matarazzo (Drexel Hill, PA) grabbed the 50-yard freestyle in 21.60 seconds.
 
The men extended their winning streak over Division III opponents to 15.

The teams also held "Widener Swims for the Cure." T-shirts and ribbons were given out for donations, which were collected for the Lymphoma/Leukemia Society.

Widener on Wednesday visits Swarthmore for a 6:00 pm start.
