Widener generated multiple second half opportunities, but could not manage to find the back of the net and dropped a hard-fought 1-0 contest to Albright in its Commonwealth Conference opener at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Albright tallied less than 14 minutes into the contest when Chris Tadley settled a ball in the box and fed Gibrilla Conde who touched it past junior goalkeeper Ryan Frantz (Marlton, NJ).
The Lions (7-3, 1-0 CC) had a brilliant opportunity to add to the lead in the 39th minute when Widener was called for a hand ball in the box. Conde took the penalty kick, but Frantz made a diving stop to his right to keep it a one-goal deficit.
Widener outshot its fourth straight opponent, earning an 11-7 edge. The Pride (4-6-1, 0-1) also finished with a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Widener on Wednesday travels to Haverford for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
