Swimming Notches Two Victories Over Lebanon Valley

Widener's women's swimming team posted a 128-118 Middle Atlantic Conference triumph over Lebanon Valley and the men notched a 108-93 win at Schwartz Center.

 

Senior Tyla Conicello (West Conshohocken, PA) won three times, including two individual triumphs.  She took the 100-yard backstroke in 1:09.45 and the 50-yard freestyle in 26.45 seconds.

 

Conicello also was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, which closed in 1:57.27.  That also included senior Elin Berlin (Stockholm, Sweden), sophomore Carlee Moir (Broomall, PA) and freshman Kelsey Lake (Ijamsville, MD).

 

Berlin won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.34 and Moir won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:25.51.  Senior Emma Thrasher (Gettysburg, PA) took the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.47, freshman Marikate Cook (Southampton, PA) grabbed the 200-yard freestyle in 2:11.38 and sophomore Shannon MacCormick (Bryn Mawr, PA) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:33.55.

 

The men's 200-yard medley relay team won in 1:40.17 and was comprised of junior Jesse Bregman (Oreland, PA), sophomore Joe Deighan (Wyomissing, PA), Tim Merli (Jessup, PA) and fellow freshman Nick Moore (Philadelphia, PA).

 

Bregman captured the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.28, Deighan took the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.42 and Merli won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.20 seconds.  Moore took the 100-yard backstroke in 58.45 seconds, junior Dalton Schiller (Media, PA) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:26.90 and sophomore Sean Corcoran (Newtown, PA) captured the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.21.

The men (7-1, 3-0) have won seven straight meets and are undefeated against Division III opponents.

 

Widener on Saturday visits Elizabethtown for a 1:00 pm start.
