Widener scored three goals in just over a seven-minute span during the second half for a 4-1 victory at Swarthmore in the “320 Challenge.”
The Pride (2-0) needed just 6:40 into the second half to tally for a 2-1 lead. Senior Ellen Etzweiler (Landisville, PA) sent a penalty corner up top to freshman Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ), who blasted a shot to the back of the cage.
Brittany Dippolito (Pennsauken, NJ) scored less than seven minutes later off a feed from fellow senior Jessica Gonzalez (Eastampton, NJ) for a 3-1 margin. Just 46 seconds later, junior Megan Scarpinato (Sewell, NJ) netted an unassisted marker.
Junior Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) made two saves in the opening half and senior Katie Jensen (Center Valley, PA) had one in the second for Widener. Sophomore Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ) scored in the first half off a pass from freshman Shelby Aaronson (Lumberton, NJ) for a 1-1 tie.
Widener posted a 20-6 shots advantage that included 11-2 in the first half.
Catie Meador scored the game's first goal in the second minute and Gina Grubb made nine saves off the bench for the Garnet (1-1).
The "320 Challenge" is a season-long series between the schools among their 19 shared sports. Each victory in the head-to-head matchups earns one point and tie or split series gains 1/2 point.
Widener is off until next Saturday, when it hosts Cabrini at noon.
