Widener survived a rain delay and extra innings before scratching out a run in the bottom of the 13th inning for a wild 4-3 victory over Albright in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament.
The Pride (21-15-1) advance to the championship round in search of their first league title since capturing the Middle Atlantic Conference in 1999. The squad faces Elizabethtown on Saturday at noon, needing a victory in one of the two games to win the crown.
Freshman Dan Sieracki (Cherry Hill, NJ) in the 13th reached on a one-out error by third baseman Jason Dunkelberger and advanced to second. Mike Villari (Holland, PA) was intentionally walked and was erased on a fielder's choice from fellow junior Tom Connelly (Media, PA), sending Sieracki to third. Sophomore Tom Mahoney (Norristown, PA) followed with a grounder to shortstop Pat Brady, whose flip to second base went awry and allowed Sieracki to score.
Junior Dan Gross (Coatesville, PA) again pitched solidly for the Pride despite the no-decision, yielding three runs -- two earned -- and five hits over seven innings. West Chester, PA freshman Rick Kazigian (1-1) struck out six over six scoreless innings, yielding just one hit.
Saverio ended with two hits and Sieracki extended his hitting streak to seven games for the Pride, who have won five of their last six outings.
Kevin Butler (1-2) took the loss for Albright, which managed only six hits and committed seven errors.
