Jackie Elliott's Career Day Lifts Women's Lacrosse to 19-16 Triumph Over Alvernia

(boxscore)

Junior Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) scored a school-record 11 goals and tied the school mark with 12 points, helping Widener to a 19-16 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over Alvernia at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Elliott netted seven markers in the opening half for the Pride (5-7, 2-5 MAC), which grabbed a 14-9 lead. Widener owned a 25-14 shots edge in that span.

Sophomores Mellany Broomall (Clarksboro, NJ) and Calina Walz (Medford, NJ) as well as freshman Anna Geeter (Jackson, NJ) scored two goals apiece for the Pride. Senior Grace Cavanaugh (Voorhees, NJ) and junior Brittany Dippolito (Pennsauken, NJ) netted one goal each.

Elliott's goal beat the previous mark of nine, set by Courtney Patton against Cedar Crest in 1991. Elliott shares the points mark with Patton from the same contest.

Sarah George and Tara Walls scored four goals each for the Crusaders (7-4, 2-4).

Widener on Tuesday visits Arcadia, beginning at 4:00 pm.
