Baseball Posts Huge 10-8 Win at TCNJ

(boxscore)

Sophomore Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, PA) rapped four hits for Widener, which rallied for a 10-8 victory at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ.

DeAngelis' leadoff double in the sixth inning paved the way for four runs, helping Widener open a 9-6 lead. Sophomore Jason Brooke (Collegeville, PA), senior Colin McHale (Wynnewood, PA) and sophomore Josiah Fischer (Nazareth, PA) all had RBI singles in the frame.

Widener's bullpen made it stand.  Dallastown freshman Craig Ricks (1-0) pitched four relief innings, allowing two runs and three hits with just one walk for the win.  Freshman Rick Kazigian (West Chester, PA) got the save, entering in the ninth and yielding just a single that was erased on a double play.

It was DeAngelis' first four-hit game of the year after notching two last season. McHale and Fischer had two hits and two RBI apiece for Widener (13-11-1), which ended with 16 hits.

Eric Lewis (0-1) was charged with four runs – one earned – and four hits over two relief innings for the Lions (11-12-1), who recently fell out of the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Top 30 Poll. Vince Mazzaccaro ended 4-for-4.

Widener on Friday returns to Commonwealth Conference play at home against Arcadia, beginning at 3:00 pm.
