Widener hung tough against the No. 18 team in Division II, but just fell short in a 3-1 loss at West Chester.
The game was scoreless in the sixth, when the Rams (23-8) scored twice. Kyle Orensky lifted a sacrifice fly and Charlie Kelly laced a run-scoring triple.
Widener (11-9-1) got one back in the eighth as senior Colin McHale (Wynnewood, PA) lined an RBI single for a 2-1 deficit. But West Chester closed the scoring in the eighth as Orensky blasted his seventh home run of the year.
Broomall, PA freshman Joe Sessa (1-3) pitched great despite the loss, yielding two runs and seven hits over seven innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
A staff outing by the Rams consisting of six pitchers combined to hold the Pride to six hits. Jordan Lehman (1-0) allowed one run and three hits over 1 2/3 innings and Eric Carmichael got the final five outs for the save.
