Sophomore Jason Brooke (Collegeville, PA) notched a career-best five RBI in game one for Widener, which posted a 26-0 Commonwealth Conference victory over Arcadia before a 5-3 loss.
Brooke had a two-run single during a 10-run second inning, during which the Pride opened an 11-0 lead. He added another two RBI single in the third, when Widener (15-12-1, 5-4) plated seven runs for an 18-0 cushion.
Sophomore Alex Oliver (Lebanon, NJ) homered and closed with four RBI for Widener, which pounded 21 hits versus three for Arcadia (4-23, 1-8 CC). Brooke, senior Colin McHale (Wynnewood, PA) and sophomore Tom Mahoney (Norristown, PA) had three hits apiece.
Royersford, PA freshman Jason Ferrie (3-0) struck out seven over four innings, allowing one hit and no walks. Stephen Vassalotti (0-7) gave up 11 runs and seven hits over two innings for the Knights.
By contrast, Widener only could muster seven hits in game two. Sophomore Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, PA) had two, including an RBI single during a four-run third inning in which Widener closed to 4-3.
Coatesville, PA junior Dan Gross (2-3) endured a rare tough outing, yielding four runs and seven hits over two innings.
Zach Spece (1-5) permitted three runs and seven hits with five strikeouts over seven innings. Tim Wiand had three RBI.
Widener sits third in the conference, one game ahead of fourth-place Messiah and two games behind Lebanon Valley for second.
