Baseball Opens Season in Florida

Widener's baseball team began its season with games at the Disney World Complex in Orlando, FL.
 
Widener on Saturday dropped a 7-2 contest to Rose-Hulman before splitting a doubleheader with King's. The Pride notched a 9-2 win in the opener before a 5-1 setback in the finale.
 
Against Rose-Hulman, junior Mike Villari (Holland, PA), sophomore Tom Mahoney (Norristown, PA) and freshman Sean Saverio (Horsham, PA) all got one hit for the Pride. Coatesville, PA junior Dan Gross (0-1) permitted two earned runs and five hits over six innings.
 
In the opener vs. King's, sophomore Josiah Fischer (Nazareth, PA) had three hits and three RBI with junior Tom Connelly (Media, PA) posting three hits and two RBI. Saverio rapped two hits and Royersford, PA freshman Jason Ferrie (1-0) gave up a run and three hits over six innings.
 
In the second game, Saverio and sophomore Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, PA) closed with two hits apiece. Brookhaven, PA sophomore Kevin Culbert (0-1) allowed four earned runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings with four strikeouts.
