Men's Basketball Tops Arcadia, 80-67, in Conference Opener

Junior Chris McDevitt (Doylestown, PA) led four players in double figures with 15 points for Widener, which began Commonwealth Conference play with an 80-67 triumph over Arcadia at Schwartz Center.

 

McDevitt and sophomore Perry Wright (Severn, MD) each hit a 3-pointer during a 10-2 run that gave Widener, which led by 18 in the first half, a 56-43 cushion with 11:20 remaining.

 

The Pride (5-1, 1-0 CC) were in control at that point, shooting 58 percent (26-of-45) from the field overall and 8-of-15 from 3-point range.

 

Wright and senior Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) scored 14 points apiece with sophomore Jack Brennan (Stratford, NJ) adding 13 for Widener.  Junior Jarrell Nelson (Waldorf, MD) netted eight off the bench.

 

Renard Smith poured in 19 points for the Knights (2-3, 0-1), who shot 43 percent (12-of-28) from the floor in each half.  Chris Pearson scored 15 points, Malcolm Still had 12 and Marvin Holman-Little added 10 for Arcadia.

 

Widener on Saturday hosts Lycoming as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 3:00 pm, preceded by the women's contest at 1:00 pm.
