Men's Basketball Drops Hard-Fought Battle at No. 5 Richard Stockton

(box score)

Widener gave fifth-ranked Richard Stockton all it could handle before an early second-half run resulted in a 72-53 loss in Pomona, NJ.

The Pride (3-1) were more than up for the challenge against the defending NCAA runner-ups, only trailing 27-26 at halftime.  The defense played a pivotal role as Richard Stockton hit just 29 percent (8-of-28) from the field in that stretch.

But the Ospreys (4-1) went on a 14-3 run to open the second half, due largely to Omar Smith's six points, for a 41-29 lead with 15:33 remaining.

Senior Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) scored nine points and junior Chris McDevitt (Doylestown, PA) netted eight for the Pride, who shot 38 percent (23-of-60) from the floor.

Michael Farrow led four players in double figures for the Ospreys with 18 points and Smith netted 12.  DiAndre Brown had 11 points and 12 rebounds with Kai Massaquoi scoring 10 points.

The free throw line also was a factor with the Ospreys hitting 21-for-27 and the Pride making 5-for-13.

Widener on Saturday is home against Neumann, beginning at 3:00 pm.
